Generic disk is an hgst 7200 rpm disk. The rest are as shown. All connected to USB 3.0 ports for all except samsung ssd which is native to the notebook used for the test, Lenovo Y50-70. The advantage of the ssd over the hgst is small for the sequential access. ssd is excellent for random access and when sata III is used. This is not the case for Lenovo Y50-70. I expect this result but the reason why ssd is good for notebook is security. You are not worried about vibration damage. I am not worried about access time because most of the time, I simply copy large files from one place to another.
