Symbolic Math using Octave and Matlab

For Octave 4.4.1

  1. download the symbolic-win-py-bundle-2.7.1.zip file at our github releases page.
  2. start Octave, change folder to where your downloads are.
  3. type pkg install symbolic-win-py-bundle-2.7.1.zip
  4. type pkg load symbolic
  5. type syms x

https://github.com/cbm755/octsympy/wiki/Notes-on-Windows-installation

Get the list of functions from here:
https://octave.sourceforge.io/list_functions.php?sort=alphabetic

Octave has the vector package i.e. 1 dimensional matrix and its cross product.

However it does not have units and physical constants, unike Maxima.

Maxima 5.42.2 does not have a workable image load function. Its only load_xpm() is broken.
  • cross  octave
  • Compute the vector cross product of two 3-dimensional vectors X and Y.
Symbolic cross product.

a = [sym('a1'); sym('a2'); sym('a3')];
b = [sym('b1'); sym('b2'); sym('b3')];
cross(a, b)
  • solve (sym)  symbolic
Symbolic solutions of equations, inequalities and systems.

    syms x
    solve(x == 2*x + 6, x)
      ⇒ ans = (sym) -6
    solve(x^2 + 6 == 5*x, x)

    vpasolve  symbolic
Numerical solution of a symbolic equation.
    dsolve (sym)  symbolic
Solve ordinary differential equations (ODEs) symbolically.

    syms y(x)
    DE = diff(y, x) - 4*y == 0
      ⇒ DE = (sym)
                    d
          -4⋅y(x) + ──(y(x)) = 0
                    dx

    sol = dsolve (DE)
      ⇒ sol = (sym)
                     4⋅x
          y(x) = C₁⋅ℯ

The real reason why Venezuela Failed: Free Petrol

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/9qdO2pFoGgw" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Watch 20:25 where they talk about the price of petrol and attempts at controlling.
The people actually revolted when petrol price was to be increased and now it is untouchable,
despite its price that is so low to be free. 1 US$ can buy 1 million gallons of petrol, or RM1 for 1 million litres of petrol.

Venezuelans instead blamed all others except this ridiculously low price of petrol, and would rather starve rather than increase the price of petrol to a more realistic level.

Making Innovation as Highest Priority in our Education System

Minister of Higher Education
Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia
(Pendidikan Tinggi)
No. 2, Menara 2,
Jalan P5/6, Presint 5,
62200 Putrajaya, Malaysia

Vice Chancellors of Universities,
16 Feb 2019
Appeal in Making Innovation as Highest Priority in our Education System
Malaysia is a developing country which means that we are still not rich enough to contribute to humanity by ourself. Our education system should cater to the needs of our country Malaysia instead of the global needs of making industries rich, industries that are not controlled by Malaysia. This is what Malaysian Universities are doing by making too excessive emphasis on Journal Publications.
Although our policians and educationists shout about the need for innovation in order to be developed, they value journal publications more than patents. This came about because the most famous University Indexing systems the THE Word University Rankings, QS World University Rankings, Webometrics, and MYRA are all based mostly on Journal Publications, with very little emphasis on patents.
For example, as explained in http://research.ukm.my/malaysia-research-assessment-instrumen-myra/, MYRA only puts 10% on innovation while putting 30% on research output and an additional 25% on research staff, i.e. those staff that engage mostly in research such as those holding PhD degrees, that are judged mostly on their research skills, not on innovative skills, i.e. design skills which are vital for producing patents. Another 15% on producing post graduates that are mostly based on journal publications, i.e. mostly research. Therefore the total emphasis is 70% on research leading to journal publications.
Actually there is an indexing method that judges innovation among universities. This is the Top 100 Innovative Universities (https://www.reuters.com/innovative-universities-2018/methodology). In this index, journal publication only accounts for 10% of the total mark in the ranking, and only publications, not citations. Among the patent ranking, just total number of filings in WIPO are counted for 10%. Patents do not need to be granted although, % of granted patents are also given a separate 10% marks.
Although Malaysian universities publish patents, most are filed in MYIPO but depending on the patent, it may not make sense when the product is better sold in developed countries that will use the proposed product. Although, in my opinion, filing in WIPO is useless because it incurs extra costs without any extra protection or better patent granting chance. However if you look at the Asia Pacifics ranking (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-asiapac-reuters-ranking-innovative-un/asia-pacifics-most-innovative-universities-2018-idUSKCN1J02SP), there are 2 from Singapore, which shows how much Singapore invests in innovation by filing patents in WIPO instead of just Singapore Patent Office. Coincidentally, these two are also among the top academic university rankings in the world. This is not a coincidence.
Research work that lead to patents can also be published as journals because they are also research output. The nature of the research is more application specific instead of just fundamental research. There are few of these types of research. Probably, because they require special skills and extra equipment, but this is what Malaysia need in order to develop as a progressive nation. We must invest more research that can contribute to patents instead of novel ideas. Novel ideas are also some forms of innovation, but Malaysia cannot afford to contribute in this type of innovation, as a developing nation. Malaysia badly needs to get more involved in patent resulting research. WIPO helps in publicising the research but it does not grant patents. This is the role that MYIPO should play.
Unfortunately, MYIPO has failed in this respect. It took more than 5 years to give a comment, and when the comment came, it was so stupid instead of constructive comments as required by normal patent filing procedure. USPTO guidelines state that patent examiners must recommend changes that will make the patent granted. MYIPO, instead, make such silly comment as certifying that a patent that uses only one motor is equivalent to two other patents that use 2 motors. And these patents which are cited by the patent examiners are not additonal researched patents, but patents that were already found by the inventor in the original filing. Even after more than 3 months, there is no feedback on these stupid conclusions from the patent examiners.
The whole university community must force MYIPO to give priority to local inventions and give the benefit of the doubt to local inventors instead of discriminating against them and give stupid feedback that do not make any sense at all.
Yours sincerely,
Saya yang menjalankan amanah.

Rayuan untuk Pertahankan Hak Cipta Malaysia

Tun Dr. Mahathir,
Perdana Menteri Malaysia
11 Feb 2019
Per: Rayuan untuk Pertahankan Hak Cipta Malaysia
Saya telah memberi cadangan kepada Jabatan Perdana Menteri, Bahagian Undang undang supaya menggubal undang undang hak cipta supaya mempercepatkan prosess kelulusan ciptaan tempatan melalui Ruj: BPA.600-1/10/2018/PCB.241080 bertarikh: 30/10/2018.
Mohd Suffian Bin Mohd Kasim b.p.
MIGHT (https://www.might.org.my/).
https://ocean.org/articles/rwandas-plastic-bag-black-market/.

Principle of Time of Flight 3D Camera

https://upcommons.upc.edu/bitstream/handle/2117/13573/1232-Lock-in-Time-of-Flight-(ToF)-Cameras_-A-Survey.pdf

A near-infrared light (NIR), via light-emitting diodes (LED), is emitted by the system
and then reflected back to the sensor. Many authors [9]–[12] provide formulations for sinusoidal signals, although other periodic functions can be used. Every pixel on the sensor samples the amount of light reflected by the scene four times at equal intervals for every period, (m0,m1,m2 and m3 in Fig. 1), which allows for the parallel measurement of its phase

Conservatism vs Liberalism

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tN9bu6CP318
There are some good arguments in this youtube but they all miss their points.

The lecturer repeated say that being in that University is a privilege.
For ordinary listener, you do not realise the implication of what he is saying.

It is not easy to go to that university. It means that, even though you have money, you may still not be able to get into that university. Which is not the whole truth. You may not have money to pay tuition fees.

What listeners do not realise is that money is not taken into account  by that lecturer. He assumes that only academically deserving students are allowed in that university.

Why would they argue about placement? It is about affirmative action policies in USA, where places in a university is reserved to minorities or races that had been subjected to discrimination.

The lecturer argued that affirmative action is completely wrong because a deserving student will lose places to a less qualified student and correcting racial discrimination in the past is completely wrong. Which is exaggerated. Just becasue you cannot catch all criminals, does not mean that we should abolish all criminal laws.

In ethical considerations, facts must be observed and exaggerations avoided.

Affirmative action policies can still be implemented despite discriminatory practises just like income tax policies, in order to maximise the resources of the nation and increasing the livelihood of its citizens.

One simple way is to stick to academic results, instead of ability to pay. In that way, the standard of education does not drop. So scholarship money should be given to people who really cannot afford it, and it should be paid back or bonded with work obligations.

Giving monetary rewards to best achievers has some good but it should not be overdone.

There are other issues that should be addressed. What is important is to stick to facts.

There are other videos spread by these conservative groups that are the backbone of President Donald Trump. If we have time, we should try to listen to them and understand their viewpoints.

Response to Facebook's Ridiculous Censorship

You have given a very dangerous precedence.

Paranoid responses are allowed but explanations of the actual meanings of the phrases are not allowed.

How could you allow people to insult national languages and the name of a country, and when people responded, you complained that it is racist.

It is like the Jews in Israel killing innocent Arabs, and when we commented that the Jews in Israel killed Palestinians, it is condemned as racist, because it incites hatre. Bloody idiot. You are hiding the truth in order to hide hideous racist crimes.

Racism should be tackled with truth, not paranoid. We cannot just disallow any condemnations of a person of a certain race, and consider it as racism, and therefore allow worse responses such killing them for complaining against a member of the race.

My post that had been deleted is such a clear example. A Malay guy was insulted by a racist chinese salesgirl who insulted his language and country, that happens to be the language of the country that the girl is staying and supposed to be loyal.

To add salt to injury, she offered alcohol to everyone at a public place, without any approved license. You do not serve alcohol at a supermarket. Only display canned or bottled drinks.

In response to that insults he asked if the girl is chinese.
Is that racist, if we are to ask for someone's race? Yes, to racist bastards like chinese and jews.

Because the chinese in Malaysia believed that they were insulted by being called racists, they justify a really racist actions of terminating his employment and threatening his children that study in a chinese school. Actions are what constitue racism. Not insults against individuals.

Facebook may have a duty to protect harmony but do you want to protect harmony of child rapists, murderers and racists? Why should we care if we insult them and their actions? In fact, it is our duty to insult these bastards so that they realise the consequences of their actions.

Stopping an article because it hurts the feelings of others is also stupid. Because many people feel insulted if they are proven wrong. So, should we stop all posts that try to explain all the wrongs in the world? This is what FAcebook is doing right now through its idiotic reviewers.

When a Malay wants to insult people, he will use the word "babi" or :"pork" but why should the pork eaters feel insulted. It is just like people calling others as beef eaters, or shark eaters etc. Are you insulted if you are called with such names? You will be an idiot if you are.

Worse, there are ulteriour motives behind being insulted, which I detected as extreme racism, i.e. getting excuses for the blatant racism that the chinese in Malaysia exhibits.

As to "cina keturunan babi" insulting to the chinese race, this is completely false. The Malays will use the same insult to any person of any race, because the Malays consider "babi" as dirty.

In Malay, the phrase "cina", translated as chinese, does not refer to a race but a person. It is just the way the Malay grammar is interpreted. Malays like to use this kind of insult when directing to a person, even to its own race, Melayu bangsat (Malay bastard) does not mean that the entire Malay race is bastard. The race is put as an idicator that he is a traitor for his race by being a bastard.

If you start interpreting pig, or "babi" as an racist insult, then you should start disallowing others animals as well, such as crocodile, shark, etc. It is just ridiculous how people can be so sensitive.

We cannot allow guilty people get away with murder just because people express their displeasure towards them in a truthful way.

You may read more about my analysis of the possibly insulting phrase at:
https://othmanahmad.blogspot.com/2018/12/is-cina-keturunan-babi-racist-and.html
